How do I get Wi-Fi telemetry from a Flight Controller?

Mount your Kahuna Wing Edition to the telemetry pins on a Matek H743-WING V2, V3 or F405-WING V2 flight controller. Set the appropriate baud rate in Mission Planner or QGroundControl (default: 57600). You can now connect wirelessly to your autopilot by connecting to the WiFi access point SSID: BeyondRobotix Password: beyondrobotix. Head to 192.168.4.1 in a browser to adjust settings. The full getting started guide is available in the Kahuna User Guide

How do I extend the range of MAVLink Wi-Fi telemetry?

The Kahuna has a U.FL connector which enables a wide range of antennas to be used. A more directional antenna such as a patch antenna can be used to increase the range of the Kahuna for the same output power.

Is the Kahuna firmware open source?

The Kahuna firmware is open source and available at https://github.com/BeyondRobotix/Kahuna.

How can I get telemetry from multiple drones on one ground station?

When connected to the Kahuna access point head to 192.168.4.1 in a browser and change the mode to station mode. Enter the SSID and password of an existing WiFi network and reboot the Kahuna. The Kahuna will now connect to the existing WiFi network. This process can be repeated for multiple vehicles and telemetry from all of them will be available in Mission Planner or QGroundControl on devices connected to the same network.

What is the maximum range of MAVLink Wi-Fi telemetry?

In testing a range of 2.5km was acheived using a small dipole antenna on the Kahuna and a 2.4Ghz wifi dongle on the ground station.

How do you set up the Kahuna with a Flight Controller?

Great product, highly recommend

I purchased a couple of these and I can highly recommend. After trying WiFi telemetry with the original Pixracer, I was left disappointed with the range - great for bench setup, but of limited use in the field. The Kahuna changed my mind about WiFi; easy to setup, great quality, and good range. Inexpensive lightweight telemetry that just works.

PLUG AND PLAY

Very straight forward to set up and use

Easy to use; effective

The Kahuna made establishment of a wireless connection between Mission Planner and Pixhawk autopilot seamless and straight forward. It is truly plug and play, requiring no complicated setup process or adjustment of parameter values. I used it on a rover. Range was limited by the reach of the WiFi signal (I had around 100 m range on a ground vehicle in a noisy WiFi environment). Range will probably be significantly better in an aircraft and a less noisy environment. A great product. Highly recommended!
